DISASTER PREPAREDNESS
AND RESPONSE WORKSHOP
Tuesday, April 17 and Wednesday, April 18, 2001
Morven Park in Leesburg in hosting a two-day workshop to address issues
of disaster preparedness and response. Conservator Tara Fraser of
Fraser/Spafford Ricci Art & Archival Conservation, Inc. will lead the
program, which will provide participants with knowledge about emergency
planning at their museum or historic site. It will include information on
risk assessments, disaster prevention, response and recovery. Participants
will also learn the basics of writing a disaster plan for their sites, and
the resources available in the event of an emergency.
Hands-on portions of
the workshop will include a mock disaster, which will allow participants to
discover an emergency problem, formulate an action plan, design a work space,
and apply salvage, recovery, and stabilization techniques.
This unique two-day workshop is $160 per person, and $135 per person for
Virginia Association of Museum (VAM) members. The fee includes all materials
and supplies, morning refreshments and afternoon snacks on both days, and
lunch on Tuesday. Also included will be a private tour of the mansion at
Morven Park, home to Virginia Governor Westmoreland Davis. Space is limited
to 20 participants, so early registration is suggested.
