MORVEN PARK EQUESTRIAN CENTER TO OFFER PUBLIC TRAIL RIDES
LEESBURG, VIRGINIA (March 5, 2003) New this year, the Morven Park
Equestrian Center and US Trail Ride, Inc. will host four guided public
horseback trail rides across the grounds of Morven Park, the 1,200-acre
historic landmark estate of Virginia Governor Westmoreland Davis
(1918-1922) located north of Leesburg in Loudoun County, Virginia. The
first trail ride is scheduled for April 5, 2003, starting at 10:00 am.
The $35.00 fee includes a choice of several box lunches.
Loudoun County is the second fastest-growing county in the United
States, and open spaces for horseback riding are disappearing. Despite
having the largest population of horses in the Commonwealth, northern
Virginia horse owners find it more difficult to ride in public areas
without interference from vehicular traffic. "Morven Park is a private
park, and we are pleased to expand the opportunities for trail riders to
enjoy this incredible property," said Will O'Keefe, the park's executive
director.
The approximately two hour trail ride is planned as an extensive tour of
the Morven Park estate and will include a ride past the historic 19th
century Greek Revival-style Governor's Mansion. Pre-registration is
required, and riders must supply their own horse and equipment. The
trail rides will take place rain or shine. Some of the footing may be
rocky; horse owners are strongly encouraged to shoe their horses
accordingly. Additional trail rides are scheduled for June 8, August
10, and October 18, 2003. A registration form is available on-line, or call (703) 777-2890 for more
information.
