Morven Park Announces Timetravelers 2001
Morven Park in Leesburg, Virginia is pleased to announce the availability of TimeTravelers 2001 passports. This statewide project was developed five years ago to stimulate interest in and visitation to Virginia's many museums and historic sites. More than 250 participating sites across the state are using the passports, discounts and reward system to encourage school age children and their families to visit Virginia historic destinations. Students visiting six TimeTravelers sites will receive a certificate signed by Governor Jim Gilmore and for a $5 handling fee, will also receive a special TimeTravelers t-shirt.
Moven Park will distribute passports while supplies last. If you are a group leader or parent who would like to participate in this fun educational adventure, please contact Melissa York at Morven Park. "This is a good program for teachers to start their students on before the end of the school year with the parents continuing the visits during the summer holiday" said York. She also strongly encourages scout leaders and homeschoolers to participate in this program as a means to expand their knowledge of Virginia history. The program runs from April 1 througth November 2, 2001.
TimeTravelers was developed by the Virginia History Initiative, a task force created in 1995 by Governor George Allen. It is administered by the Virginia Association of Museums and supported by a number of state and private agencies. Passports may be picked up at Morven Park prior to touring the mansion. Groups must call 703-777-2414 to reserve a tour time.
