Morven Park Opens for 2001 Season
on April 7

Morven Park, the historic home of Governor Westmoreland Davis, will open for the 2001 season on Saturday, April 7th. Located in Leesburg, Virginia, the 1200 acre estate offers visitors a glimpse into Virginia country life during the early years of the 20th century.

Westmoreland Davis became Governor of Virginia in 1918. Under his guidance the Commonwealth weathered the end of the Great War and moved into the modern era of American politics. A special exhibit entitled "The Road to Richmond" will open in October to showcase the Governor's campaign and subsequent move to Richmond following his election.

With its signature white columned portico, the stately Greek Revival mansion at Morven Park contains items of various styles and times, including 16th century Flemish tapestries, Renaissance and neo-Renaissance pieces, silver and glass, fine paintings and porcelain figurines. A visit to the Museum of Hounds and Hunting and the Winmill Carriage Collection will give visitors an opportunity to explore the heritage of sporting life in North America.. After touring the museums, guests may stroll through the elegant boxwood gardens or enjoy a leisurely picnic under the trees.

Morven Park is not only an historical site, but is also home to the Morven Park International Equestrian Center, one of Virginia's premier equestrian events facilities.

The property is open to the public from Thursday through Monday until the end of October and on weekends only during November. Tours are offered at 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm. The park closes at 6 pm. From December 8-16, the mansion will be decked in the holiday finery of 1917 and special holiday tours will be offered. Tickets are $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and $1 for children which admit visitors to the grounds and all museums. Special groups tours and ticket packages are also available.
