Morven Park Seeks Items
for Special Exhibit

Staff members of the Westmoreland Davis Memorial Foundation at Morven Park are asking for objects that the public may have pertaining to Governor Davis’ election and time in office. Election posters, campaign materials and other memorabilia are among the items needed to help tell the story of Westmoreland Davis’ road to Richmond in 1917 and his term as governor of Virginia from 1918-1922. Items will be used in an exhibit entitled “A Jollification Celebration: Westmoreland Davis as Virginia’s Governor,” which will be on display at Morven Park from October 4 through mid-December.

The centerpiece of the exhibit will be Governor Davis’ official portrait, on loan from the Library of Virginia. The portrait has hung in the State Capitol in Richmond with the portraits of other Virginia governors over the years. Westmoreland Davis was the first, and to date the only, resident of Loudoun County to be elected governor of Virginia. His home, Morven Park, is located on the northwest edge of Leesburg and is open to visitors from April through mid-December. For more information, or to speak with someone about loaning pertinent objects for the exhibit, please contact Tracy Gillespie, Director of Curatorial Operations, or Melissa York, Director of Education, at (703) 777-6034.

Morven Park is operated in the public interest by the Westmoreland Davis Memorial Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization founded to protect, preserve and promote the historic and cultural resources of Morven Park.
