FREE ADMISSION TO MORVEN PARK ON NOVEMBER 12
Morven Park, near Leesburg, Virginia, is pleased to participate in a
nationwide movement to promote unity, hope and healing on November 12 -
Veteran's Day. As part of the National Park Service special initiative to
help Americans find a place of healing and reflection after the tragedy of
September 11, Morven Park, along with many other historic sites nationwide,
will waive its admission fees on Monday, November 12. The property will be
open to the public for tours at 1PM, 2PM, 3PM and 4PM without charge.
Visitors are also welcome to picnic if the weather permits.
Morven Park is the estate of VA Governor Westmoreland Davis. The elegant
Greek Revival mansion is located on 1200 acres. The collection contains
items of various styles and times including 16th century Flemish tapestries,
Renaissance and neo-Renaissance pieces, silver and glass, fine paintings and
porcelain figurines.
Visitors may learn more about the heritage of sporting life in North
American by visiting the Museum of Hounds and Hunting and the Winmill
Carriage Collection, one of the most unique personal collections of horse
drawn vehicles ever assembled. Outside, guests may stroll through the
elegant boxwood gardens and enjoy the waning days of autumn.
With the exception of Veteran's Day, Monday, November 12, Morven Park is
only open on weekends during the month of November. The park will be closed
from November 26th through December 7th. The Mansion will re-open from
December 8-16 for special holiday tours.
