FILMING OF GOD AND GENERALS
AT MORVEN PARK

Filming for the screen version of the Civil War novel Gods and Generals will take place at Morven Park on Friday, December 7th. The mansion at Morven Park, Leesburg home of World War I-era Virginia Governor Westmoreland Davis, will stand in for Robert E. Lee's home in Arlington, VA. The scene to be filmed will show Lee leaving his home as the war is beginning in the spring of 1861.

Jeff Shaara's best selling novel of the early years of the war is being filmed as a major motion picture with an all-star cast including Robert Duvall as General Robert E. Lee and Stephen Lang as General "Stonewall Jackson" Jeff Daniels will be reprising his role from the movie Gettysburg as Colonel Joshua Chamberlain. Gods and Generals is produced, directed and written by Ronald F. Maxwell, who also produced, directed and wrote the screen play for Gettysburg. The movie has been filmed in and around Sharpsburg, Maryland, the site of the Antietam Battlefield, and on historic locations throughout Virginia. Shaara's story of a nation divided begins in 1858 and follows the early years of the war and how the campaigns unfolded. Besides his accounts of the major battles and their leaders, he gives attention as well to the wives and family members waiting at home.

Morven Park is located off of Old Waterford Road adjacent to Leesburg, VA. For further information, or to schedule an appointment to visit the film scene on Friday, contact Tracy J. Gillespie at 703-777-6034.
