FILMING OF GOD AND GENERALS
AT MORVEN PARK
Filming for the screen version of the Civil War novel Gods and Generals will
take place at Morven Park on Friday, December 7th. The mansion at Morven
Park, Leesburg home of World War I-era Virginia Governor Westmoreland Davis,
will stand in for Robert E. Lee's home in Arlington, VA. The scene to be
filmed will show Lee leaving his home as the war is beginning in the spring
of 1861.
Jeff Shaara's best selling novel of the early years of the war is being
filmed as a major motion picture with an all-star cast including Robert
Duvall as General Robert E. Lee and Stephen Lang as General "Stonewall
Jackson" Jeff Daniels will be reprising his role from the movie Gettysburg
as Colonel Joshua Chamberlain. Gods and Generals is produced, directed and
written by Ronald F. Maxwell, who also produced, directed and wrote the
screen play for Gettysburg. The movie has been filmed in and around
Sharpsburg, Maryland, the site of the Antietam Battlefield, and on historic
locations throughout Virginia. Shaara's story of a nation divided begins in
1858 and follows the early years of the war and how the campaigns unfolded.
Besides his accounts of the major battles and their leaders, he gives
attention as well to the wives and family members waiting at home.
Morven Park is located off of Old Waterford Road adjacent to Leesburg, VA.
