Museum Educator – Morven Park Education Team – Full-time, hourly position
Reports to the Director of Education
Start date: Immediate

Applications are being accepted for a MUSEUM EDUCATOR position on the Education team at Morven Park in Leesburg, Virginia. 

Once the residence of Virginia Governor Westmoreland Davis, the 1000-acre property is home to three museums, a renowned equestrian center, 20 acres of athletic fields, formal gardens, and miles of trails, dedicated to educational and recreational programming and preservation of open space.  

The Museum Educator will aid in delivering and developing meaningful, interactive and engaging K-12th grade civics education programs and providing guided tours of the Morven Park Museums to the general public.  Reaching over 6,000 Loudoun County Public School students a year, the civics programs empower students to know their voice matters, examine current issues relevant to their lives, take responsibility and make an impact.  

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development, execution and review of all K-12th grade civics education programs.
  • Conduct research for use in core programmatic areas: civics and history with possible opportunities in preservation and collections.
  • Interpret the site by leading tours of the Davis Mansion and the Winmill Carriage Collection.
  • Aid in Visitor Center management including welcoming visitors, taking admissions, processing gift shop purchases, managing gift shop inventory and maintaining a neat, clean environment.
  • Must be available to work weekends and possibly some holidays.
  • This is considered a full-time position and is eligible for full-time benefits package.

Knowledge & Skills: 

  • Working knowledge of best-practices in guiding student-directed inquiry and ability to differentiate instruction.
  • Understanding of Virginia Standards of Learning, Project Based Learning, 21st Century Learning and other current education pedagogy
  • Prior experience working with children in an educational capacity.
  • Ability to work in a courteous, professional manner with employees, students, clients, and the general public.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Possess a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds, bending, kneeling, stooping, climbing and standing for long periods of time.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Museum Studies, History, American Studies, Public History or a related field.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Successful pass of background check.

Sports Turf Specialist – Morven Park Athletic Fields/Buildings & Grounds Team – Full-time, hourly position
Reports to the Buildings & Grounds Manager
Start date: Immediate

Applications are being accepted for a SPORTS TURF SPECIALIST position on the Athletic Fields / Grounds Maintenance team at Morven Park in Leesburg, Virginia.    

Once the residence of Virginia Governor Westmoreland Davis, the 1000-acre property is home to three museums, a renowned equestrian center, 20 acres of athletic fields, formal gardens, and miles of trails, dedicated to educational and recreational programming and preservation of open space.     
The athletic field complex features 5 cool season grass and 3 bermuda grass multi-use sports fields.  The facility currently hosts soccer, lacrosse, rugby, flag football, and ultimate Frisbee tournaments, leagues, and camps & clinics.    

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Morven Park team to maximize venue utilization while maintaining high standards of playability, appearance, and safety.
  • Troubleshoot field deficiencies and recommend proper corrective actions.
  • Manage safe and proper handling, storage, and application of fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, and pesticides, ensuring proper calibration on chemical sprayers and granular spreaders.
  • Perform field maintenance/management including mowing, edging, aerating, top dressing and other duties as required.
  • Event prep & clean up including field layout to specified dimensions, painting, goal set and removal, field wear management.
  • Perform maintenance, repairs, programming, and adjustments in irrigation systems.
  • Perform general grounds maintenance, repair and janitorial duties of fields, fencing, parking lots, and other areas within athletic complex and, as needed, across the site.
  • Work in all weather conditions, including weekends and evenings as needed.
  • Occasional exposure to mosquitos, flies, bees, and other pests is common.  

Knowledge & Skills:  

  • Ability to work in a courteous, professional manner with employees, clients, and the general public.  
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to read chemical labels, material safety data sheets (MSDS), operator & maintenance manuals.
  • Possess a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate and perform basic maintenance on field equipment, including field painters, reel and rotary mowers, boom sprayer, etc.
  • Ability to lift 80 pounds, bending, kneeling, stooping, and climbing. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Turf Management, Sports Field Management, or related field.
  • Two years of experience in athletic field maintenance strongly preferred.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Must obtain a Virginia Commercial Pesticide Applicators license including category 3B.
