A formal portrait of Mrs. Davis, painted in 1907 by Percy Wild

Westmoreland Davis was the first Virginia Governor
to fly in an airplane.
He circled over Richmond before coming to a
bumpy landing among a crowd of admirers.

Annie Morriss Lewis Davis was the Governor’s mother. Through her family, Westmoreland Davis could trace his lineage to the first resident colonial governor of Virginia, Thomas West, 3rd Lord de la Warr.

Westmoreland Davis
as a cadet at Virginia Military Institute.
He entered VMI at the young age of fourteen.

Virginia First Lady Marguerite Davis volunteered alongside other women of the Commonwealth at the Seven Pines Munitions Plant, filling munitions bags with gunpowder.
