The museum features a unique collection of horse-drawn vehicles donated by carriage driving enthusiast, Viola Winmill. The forty antique coaches, carriages, sleds and carts range from utilitarian to regal. Of particular interest are the miniature road coach designed for General Tom Thumb of the Barnum & Bailey Circus and the elegant calèche used by Grace Kelly in the movie “The Swan.”
We suggest making a day trip to the Park to include strolling through the Park's gardens or hiking a Park trail, a picnic lunch on the expansive Davis Mansion lawn, and including your self-guided tour of the Winmill Carriage Museum.
Allow plenty of time to park and get your group to the Carriage Museum. The Visitor Lot, the Park’s main parking lot, is located at the entrance to the formal gardens. The walk from the Visitor Lot to the Winmill Carriage Museum is just under a mile and includes a combination of gravel and paved terrain with inclines and declines. If you have accessibility questions or need information on handicapped parking options, please email GroupTours@MorvenPark.org.
