Morven Park is excited to host award-winning and Amazon best-selling author Jessica James for a special event on Saturday, June 2. James will be signing copies of her new novel, The Lion of the South, on the iconic steps of the historic Davis Mansion at Morven Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“I visited Civil War-era plantation style houses all over the South to find the perfect cover image for this novel,” James said. “I knew it would be the Westmoreland Davis mansion at Morven Park as soon as I saw it. To be able to hold a book signing on the steps of this majestic house is a dream come true.”

Event attendees are encouraged to make it a Morven Park day by coming out for the book signing and then spending the rest of the afternoon enjoying all the amenities the Park has to offer! You may spend the afternoon picnicking on the Davis Mansion lawn, strolling through the formal boxwood gardens in all their spring glory, and hiking the Park’s trails. Of course, no trip to Morven Park is complete without a tour of the historic Davis Mansion. Mansion tour cost and times can be found at www.MorvenPark.org, all other amenities are free!

The Lion of the South hit No. 1 on Amazon for New Releases in the Christian Historical Fiction category in April. It is described as a tale of espionage, intrigue, and deception, that leaves the lives of two men—and the destiny of a nation—in one woman's hands during the American Civil War.

The Park is honored that the Davis Mansion is featured on the cover of The Lion of the South and that the book has been so popular with readers. In its long history, the Davis Mansion has transformed from a tiny fieldstone farmhouse into the impressive Greek Revival mansion seen today. The 1,000-acre historic estate was once the home of two governors—Westmoreland Davis, governor of Virginia from 1918 to 1922, and Thomas Swann Jr., governor of Maryland during the Civil War.

Jessica James is the author of eight historical fiction and military suspense novels, ranging from the Revolutionary War to modern day. She is a two-time winner of the John Esten Cooke Award for Southern Fiction and has won more than a dozen other literary awards, including a Readers' Favorite International Book Award and a Gold Medal from the Military Writers Society of America. Her novels have been used in schools and are available in hundreds of libraries including Harvard and the U.S. Naval Academy.
