For over a century, Virginians have benefited from Morven Park’s leadership in preserving Virginia’s heritage and architecture, sustaining the region’s rural and outdoor way of life, and encouraging an active citizenry within our democratic process.
That leadership is rooted in the real-life experiences of Gov. Westmoreland Davis, who arrived at Morven Park in 1903 and put into action his belief in the power of community to formulate change. Through the ensuing decades, Morven Park has drawn upon Davis’s experiences, recognizing that effective civic leadership is rooted in compassion, compromise, and respect for others.
We believe that civic leadership is the thread that ties together the diverse programs and initiatives within Morven Park. Gov. and Mrs. Davis modeled civic responsibility and opened their doors to the public, nurturing a sense of community connection that we continue to build today.
